A second home consecutive win for The Baggies as they saw off Bristol City following a Mikey Johnston’s first-half brace in a wet and cold Hawthorns on Sunday afternoon that puts us level on points with Middlesbrough.

A third Sunday in a row the Baggies have been in action and would again next Sunday away at Sheffield United in where this would be the last before we have 4 Saturday 3PM kick offs in a row in 2025.

It was one of the wettest and coldest games I’ve been to this season I say since Rotherham at home a couple of seasons ago just before Christmas. We started off well with a few early chances when John Swift saw a long range effort saved as well as Heggem’s blocked shot and Jayson Molumby’s dragged effort.

Bartley had his header over before the opener arrived just after the 30 minute mark when Tom Fellows cross found Mikey Johnston to head home his first goal since re-joining us in September.

Johnston also netted again just before half time, finishing off a good move from cutting inside and firing into the top corner to double the Baggies advantage.

In the second half, Alex Palmer had to stop Fally Mayulu’s attempt from the edge of the box, yet it was the Baggies trying to find another goal throughout the half.

Mikey Johnston couldn’t get his hat-trick despite a few chances whilst Fellows, Maja and Racic was all denied by a combination of good defending and goalkeeping during the Baggies onslaught.

Devante Cole could of scored late on with his shot going just wide, but we go with a 2-0 victory that sees us in 7th place with a trip down to Derby coming next on Boxing Day.

West Brom: Palmer; Furlong, Holgate, Bartley, Heggem; Fellows (Wallace 73), Molumby (Racic 54), Mowatt, Johnston (Diangana 73); Swift (Dobbin 81), Maja (Cole 81)

Bristol City: O’Leary, Vyner, McNally, Pring, McGuane, Knight (C), Bird (McCrorie 45’), Twine (Earthy 69’), Mehmeti (Bell 69’), Mayulu (Hirakawa 69’)

A good win just before Christmas a Mikey Johnston brace is what we need just in time but we go 7th in the Championship just level on points with Middlesbrough who are currently in 6th. Next is Derby away on Boxing Day whilst Bristol City face Luton Town at home.
