The Albion have come back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon as Jimmy-Jay Morgan’s only goal sealed all three points at The Hawthorns.
Watford almost took the lead inside the opening three minutes when Outhmane Maamma latched onto a swift counter-attack, but Max O’Leary denied his effort.
After that early scare, Albion began to settle into the game and tested the Watford goalkeeper through Morgan, with the striker seeing his volley scrambled away.
The game became increasingly scrappy towards the end of the first half, with both sides creating opportunities. Chris Mepham produced a brave block inside the box to deny Iker Bravo, before the Baggies broke the deadlock at the other end moments later.
Morgan was the man who found the breakthrough, calmly slotting home from close range after good build-up play involving Isaac Price and Harry Whitwell that put us 1-0 ahead.
James Morrison’s side took their lead into the interval, but had to withstand a spell of pressure from the Hornets after the restart. Ousmane Diakite made an important intervention to prevent Bravo from levelling, while Martin Payero fired a good chance over the crossbar.
Albion could then have doubled their advantage with 20 minutes remaining when Aune Heggebø, back in the starting XI after a few weeks out, was played through. However, Federico Ravaglia was equal to the Norwegian striker’s effort.
Stephy Mavididi fired wide during the closing stages, but that proved to be as close as Watford came to finding an equaliser. The Baggies held firm to secure the victory and maintain their unbeaten record at The Hawthorns.

I predicted the scoreline and the goalscorer correct in the match preview and it delivered, I knew this game would be a 1-0 scoreline, I didn’t think Watford have enough quality to equalise against us and we would have less opportunities but a win is a win and three points it is that keeps us in the play-off places after 5 games with 10 points, next up is a trip to Derby on Wednesday evening as Watford face Preston at Vicarage Road.
