The Baggies was beaten on Saturday lunchtime as Sunderland made it back to back defeats as we now fall to 8th in the Championship table, meaning there is work to do at Bristol City on Tuesday evening.

Tony Mowbray made three changes from the Norwich defeat with Darnell Furlong, Grady Diangana and Mikey Johnston in the starting XI.

The team started well, and almost opened the scoreline where Furlong saw his volley cleared off the line. Then Sunderland grew into the game where they went close through Romaine Mundle’s effort. Then in the 35th minute Hume’s free-kick out on the wide left evaded everyone and found the corner that gave Sunderland the lead.

Albion did try and respond where Mikey Johnston had his shot blocked, Molumby then nodded a close range header off the target and Diangana smashed narrowly over after a great run.

Both sides had opportunities at the second half, with Hume firing wide down one end and Adam Armstrong flicking just past the post down the other end.

Darnell Furlong’s side footer his the Sunderland wall during a dominant spell and Anthony Patterson saved a curling Kyle Bartley header as well.

Substitutes Tom Fellows and Daryl Dike threatened in the final stages of the game, with the latter then guiding the former’s dangerous cross over whilst Joe Wildsmith stopped Wilson Isidor’s late shot.

Sunderland won the game and earnt all three points leaving the Baggies into 8th place in the Championship meaning a win on Tuesday evening would mean they can go above Bristol City and get back into those top six places with Coventry not playing till Wednesday.
