The 2026–27 Championship campaign got off to a positive start for the Baggies, as they secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory. They battled bravely during the final 15 minutes to hold on and claim all three points.
James Morrison’s Baggies was backed by a sold-out away end and had to dig deep during a nervy first half. Max O’Leary produced an excellent early save to deny Norwich’s Kenny McLean before also keeping out Kellen Fisher’s low strike.
Heggebø dragged an effort wide during a promising spell for Albion halfway through the first half, but it was some great defending from his fellow Norwegian Felix Horn Myhre at the other end that ensured both sides went into half time goalless.
The midfielder did well to nod the ball over his own crossbar as the hosts looked set to open the scoring with a back-post header, before José Córdoba sent another effort that went past the post moments later.
Norwich began the second half strong but again met by a dogged Baggies defence. Our defence blocked Anis Ben Slimane’s goal-bound half-volley away shortly after the restart, before Nat Phillips blocked Andre Brooks close range effort. Whilst Max O’Leary had to make a great save to deny Fisher’s header, the visitors then starting to cause Norwich issues. Jimmy-Jay Morgan saw an attempt deflected off-target and Nat Phillips headed wide with Albion starting to grow into the game.
The Baggies then gone ahead in the 75th minute, a cross by Jimmy-Jay Morgan then reached to Heggebo that put the scoreline to 1-0, there were calls for hand-ball but the goal still went ahead.
After the goal, Isaac Price was close as he hit the crossbar with his 30 yard attempt was cut short, then Jimmy Jay-Morgan beat a few Norwich defenders and converted with a low finish to double the Baggies lead on the 87th minute.
Norwich put us from celebrational mood to a nervy mood in the final few minutes as Mathias Kvistgaarden got one back, but Albion held on to secure our first win of the campaign and the first three points into the 2026/27 season.

A great win despite a edgy performance throughout the game, it was mostly Norwich throughout the first 75 minutes but we got the job done and secured a win here, Heggebo put us ahead which was a clear handball but I ain’t bothered as it secured the points and I say Jimmy-Jay Morgan is probably the best permanent striker we’ve had since Peter Odemwingie and I think he would get us near the 20+ goal mark in the Championship since Dwight Gayle did in 2018/19. Next up is Burnley at The Hawthorns next Sunday at 12pm before our cup tie to Newcastle. For Norwich City they travel to London to face Millwall at The Den on Saturday at 12:30pm.
