Norwich City scored in stoppage time to beat the Baggies 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Carrow Road. Josh Sargent’s 92nd-minute goal earned the Canaries all three points to put a dent to our play-off hopes.

Still remaining sixth in the league now have seven games left with Sunderland up next at home on Saturday lunchtime.

Callum Styles returned to the starting 11 with the left-back who is recovering from a calf strain and Tom Fellows was also recalled.

The Baggies started brightly under the spring sunshine that forced Norwich’s Angus Gunn into two early saves. First, the Norwich goalkeeper denied a Karlan Grant shot just wide, and then he brilliantly clawed away Torbjorn Heggem’s goalbound header shortly after.

Down the other end, Joe Wildsmith stopped Josh Sargent when the striker looked to open the scoring, and Ante Crnac put the rebound wide.

In the main end, West Brom had produced better chances ahead of half time, before going close again with Karlan Grant’s curler that was saved and saw Mason Holgate’s tap-in disallowed for offside.

The second half saw both teams exchanging opportunities but Joe Wildsmith held Borja Sainz’s shot and Karlan Grant smashed his shot off the target.

Albion did spend long periods in Norwich’s half but they didn’t take enough opportunities to put us into the lead. Grady Diangana and Mikey Johnston came on for the final moments of the game as the Baggies tried to find a breakthrough.

However, Norwich were the ones to steal all three points through Josh Sargent’s late finish and they held on in the final seconds, too, clearing multiple Albion attempts off the line. It ended with Norwich securing a win meaning the Baggies have work to do in the final seven games of the season.
