It was a brilliant Sunday afternoon at The Hawthorns as the Baggies produced a stunning comeback to beat promotion favourites Burnley. After falling behind, Isaac Price struck twice to turn the game on its head, before Harry Whitwell sealed all three points with a late finish. A memorable afternoon for West Bromwich Albion and their supporters.
Isaac Price tested Burnley goalkeeper Max Weiss inside the opening five minutes – but it was the visitors who soon found a breakthough.
Albion’s appeals for a foul were waved away as Burnley stole possession and broke forward leaving for Callum Styles who turned his cross into his own net.
But the Baggies regained their composure and hit back quick by grabbing an equaliser through one of their own Harry Whitwell where Jimmy-Jay Morgan set up the academy graduate to side-foot home to put us level and his first goal at The Hawthorns.
The game continued to be an all-action affair throughout the opening 45 minutes. Max O’Leary was called into action to deny Josh Laurent as Burnley looked to respond immediately.
Both sides continued to create opportunities before the interval. Isaac Price saw one goal-bound effort blocked before another was comfortably gathered, while Armando Broja came close for Burnley when his volley struck the post.
Just two minutes into the second half, the Albion edged in front. Morgan was involved once again, helping the ball through to Isaac Price via a deflection off a Burnley defender, and the Northern Ireland international made no mistake, firing a fantastic finish into the net.
Morrison’s side continued to push forward and were rewarded for their attacking intent when the impressive Harry Whitwell was brought down inside the box to win a penalty. Isaac Price stepped up and confidently converted from the spot to complete his brace and put the Albion firmly in control.
Burnley were unable to find a way back into the contest after that, leaving the Baggies to comfortably see out the remainder of the match and secure all three points.
