A stalemate at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon saw West Brom and QPR forced to settle for a share of the spoils, with neither side able to find the decisive breakthrough in a tightly contested encounter. Both teams enjoyed spells of pressure and created opportunities to take control of the game, but a combination of resilient defending and a lack of cutting edge in the final third ensured the points were shared.
The visitors took the lead in unfortunate circumstances for Albion, with Chris Mepham credited with an own goal after the ball struck him in the face and found its way into the back of the net.
It was a frustrating setback for the Baggies, who looked to respond and work their way back into the contest after falling behind.
Albion eventually found the equaliser through Callum Styles, who produced a wonderful finish to restore parity. Styles’ superb strike gave the hosts the breakthrough they had been searching for and ensured the two sides went into the next stage of the contest on level terms.
Both teams pushed for a winner during an evenly contested second half, with chances arriving at either end as the game began to open up.
West Brom had opportunities to complete the turnaround in front of the home support, while QPR remained a threat themselves and looked capable of snatching all three points.
However, neither side could produce the decisive moment in the closing stages, with the two defences holding firm as the clock ticked down.
The final whistle confirmed a 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns, with Styles’ excellent equaliser cancelling out Mepham’s unfortunate own goal as both West Brom and QPR walked away with a point.
