Albion were forced to settle for a point on Wednesday night as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Charlton Athletic. Callum Styles’ stunning strike put the Baggies deservedly ahead just after the hour mark, but Charlton hit back through Tyreece Campbell 11 minutes later to earn a share of the Championship spoils.
It was a frustrating opening period for the hosts, who dominated possession with more than 70 per cent of the ball but struggled to find a way through their resolute opponents.
Callum Styles and new signing Kareem Tunde, making his home debut, both went close inside the opening 21 minutes, but neither could find the target.
Some quick thinking then created Albion’s best opening of the half, as JJ Morgan’s free-kick released Isaac Price. The Northern Ireland international cut inside and attempted his trademark curling finish, only for goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo to push the effort away.
The Baggies continued to control proceedings without creating another clear-cut chance before the interval, while also keeping Charlton comfortably at bay.
Price saw an effort deflected just over the bar shortly after the restart, before Okonkwo was called upon once again to deny substitute Rabby Nzingoula with a powerful strike.
Albion’s sustained pressure finally told around the hour mark. Charlton failed to clear an Albion corner beyond the edge of the box, allowing Styles to bring the ball under control before finding the top corner with a superb half-volley.
But the visitors hit back with their first real opportunity of the evening, Campbell finishing off a counter-attack to restore parity and make it 1-1.
James Morrison then turned to his bench in the closing stages, bringing on striker Aune Heggebø and Barney Stewart in search of a winner. However, Albion couldn’t find the breakthrough, leaving the spoils shared.

A frustrating draw at The Hawthorns as Charlton denied us all three points, anyways 7 points in 4 games and 7th in the league with us in the play-off places isn’t a bad start next up is Watford at home on Saturday with us trying to get back into winning ways to maintain our position in the top eight.
