A fantastic victory for the Baggies, who triumphed 2-0 over Preston North End at Deepdale Stadium, easing their relegation fears.

Strikes from Josh Maja and Daryl Dike secured the Baggies’ eighth consecutive unbeaten game, lifting them 5 points clear of 22nd-placed Oxford United.

In the opening 11 minutes, the Baggies took an early lead, with Isaac Price setting up Heggebo, who then delivered the perfect assist for Josh Maja to convert past Iversen.

Max O’Leary had little to do as his side pressed for a second goal before the break. Mowatt’s cross was narrowly flicked wide by Maja just before half-time, while Price’s powerful close-range volley was expertly blocked.

After the break, the Preston defender nearly found himself in a nightmare situation when the goalkeeper passed the ball to him, almost scoring an unfortunate own goal. Albion’s goalkeeper was then called into action, tipping Brad Potts’ header over the bar as Preston pressed for an equalizer.

Daryl Dike came on for the final stages of the match, and in the 78th minute, he marked his return with his first Albion goal in 11 months. A perfectly timed run by Molumby and a low cross found the American striker, who slotted home to seal the second goal of the game, sending Albion fans into a frenzy.

A crucial win at Preston and a much-needed positive result after a turbulent week. It all started on Monday with reports of a potential points deduction for breaching PSR last season. Then, on Wednesday, it was clarified that the issue stemmed from a loan repayment covering the losses.

But Saturday was a different story—our players showed real grit, refusing to give in. Their determination earned us the three points we deserved. Now, we’re 5 points clear of Oxford, and with a win over Watford in our next match—and if Oxford fails to win—we could secure our safety. But, of course, it all hinges on the awaited points deduction decision next month.

On a lighter note, this was my second away game where I had a pie—first at Bristol City and now at Preston. It seems to be a bit of a lucky charm, as both times I’ve had one, we’ve come away with the win!
